The community was shocked last Friday by news of the death of Michael Vopava, the second oldest son of Jacob A. Vopava. He died at the home of his father and mother at the parting hour of 4:15 o’clock a. m., Feb 2, 1912, at the age of 24 years, 11 month and 5 days. He was a clerk at J. H Haug’s store since October, 1907 until June, 1911. His health began to fail over a year ago, when the unmerciful death made its preparation. Our well known friend was always a kind and good natured gentleman, who was admired by all who knew him and he never offended anyone. To his grieving friends he seemed to reply: “My time has come, I must depart, and you in your turn shall follow me. I’ve joined the Angels of God for all eternity,--the place of eternal happiness where we shall be meet again.” He was born at which has been now his home, five miles west of Spillville. The funeral was held on Monday at 11 o’clock a. m., at the National cemetery. Prof. Hayek of Cedar Rapids delivered the sermon at the home of the deceased and also at the cemetery. Several hymns were sung by a quartet. The funeral was in charge of the Modern Woodmen of America. Those acting as pall-bearers were Ed. Kapinos, Frank Poshusta, Frank Hrushka, Chas. Smith, Chas. Kovarik and Will Kovarik. He leaves to mourn his father and mother, his only sister Victoria, brothers Frank, Charles, Jacob, William and Bohumil.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Feb. 18, 1887 which does not agree with the age shown above.
