SYDOW.
Charles F. Sydow, another of the pioneer citizens of this county, has passed to his long home. He died last Friday at his home at Conover.
Charles Fredrick Sydow was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1833, came to the United States in 1856. First settled In Clayton county, Ia., where he lived till 1861. In August 1862, inlisted as a private in Co. D, 27th Iowa lnf'y , was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, for bravery at the battle of Pleasant Hill, La., and was mustered out at Clinton, Ia., in 1865. He was married to Miss Mary N. Klein in 1867 and the same year came to Conover, Ia., at which place he has lived ever since. The living children are Mrs. W. F. Novak, of Spillville, Ia., Mrs. G. A Harvey, of Missoula, Mont., Mrs. F. C. Jones, of Little Turkey, Ia., Clara, of Sand Point, Ida , Otella Arribella and Alma, of Conover, Ia. The remains will be laid at rest at Calmar, Dec. 23, 1902.
