Died:—At his home one mile north of Frankville, July 27th. 1902. Leon Bailey Letchford, eldest son of London R. and Rilla B. Letchford. He was born at, Frankville. Winneshiek Co., Iowa, Sept. 23. 1887, making his age 14 years, 10 months and 4 days. He was taken sick just two weeks ago, with lung fever and was very ill, but under Dr. Kiesau’s care, was getting along very well and gaining so rapidly, that he tried to get up and dress, last Thursday, This proved to be too much of an exertion for him, as they had hard work to make him rally from the effects of it. Since then, he had been getting along nicely. He was jovial Sunday and even whistled. In the evening he went to sleep, but about midnight he called his mother. She found him suffering severely and breathing with difficulty. Everything was done for him that could be, but he was gone in about 10 minutes--cause, heart failure. For one of his years he revealed a manly nature already planning for the future and looking forward with bright anticipations making use of the means in his reach to prepare himself for its duties. His parents say of him “He was a good boy.” His duties to his parents, sister and little brother were cheerfully and lovingly done, “he is gone but not forgotten.” The funeral was held to-day in the M E. church, Rev. Burgess, officiating, assisted by Revs. Gregg and DePree. The remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery. His aunt, Mrs. Geo. Letchford of Estherville, arrived to-day to attend the funeral. The pall bearers were Ray Waters, Johnnie Schutta, Arthur Holm. Frank Smith, Lynn Crawford and Gerald Moose, the school children joining in the procession. Many beautiful flowers adorned the church. The family have the heart-felt sympathy of the people.
