Jean Ann Szabo, 84, of Castalia, Iowa died Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Jean was born January 17, 1935 to Milton and Anna (Boese) Gordon in West Union, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School in 1953 and graduated in 1971 from Area One in Calmar with her Nursing degree.

Jean was united in marriage with Eugene E. Szabo on February 25, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union. Jean worked at the Castalia Locker for a number of years and then as a nurse at the Postville Hospital. She then worked in medical records for Dr. McMullan until retirement. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and weaving rugs. And was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.

Jean is survived by her sons, Jeffery Szabo of Castalia, Iowa and Gregory (Dawn) Szabo of Clermont, Iowa; two grandchildren, Justin (Maryam) Szabo of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Kelli (Mitchell) Holthaus of West Union, Iowa; three step-grandchildren, Kristi (Casey) Flack of Postville, Iowa, Shannon Brockway (Penni) of Postville, Iowa and Kari (Brian) Bohr of Postville, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ashton Holthaus; two-step-great-grandchildren, Riley Brockway and Koby Bohr; and two sisters, Alice Bareis of Marquette, Iowa and Nancy Dilley of San Diego, California.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Szabo; parents, Milton and Anna Gordon; and six siblings, Lola Heins, Charlotte Gifford, Duane Gordon, Donald Gordon, Janet Yauslin and Sharon Nelson.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa with Pastor Daryl Schultz as the officiant.

Burial will follow at Bloomfield Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa.
