Dorothy Mary Hyke was born on April 20, 1928 to Clem and Rose (Stika) Hyke. Rose passed away when Dorothy was only two years old. She was raised on the family farm near Schley, IA where she worked hard to help support her family. Dorothy was the youngest of five children, Gladys Samec, Alice Praska, Mary Ernst, and Glenn Hyke, all whom preceded her in death. In 1947 Dorothy met her husband to be; Clarence Marhoul at a barn dance. They were wed and spent their fifty years together in Calmar raising their three daughters: Eileen, Patty and Debbie. Clarence passed away in 1999 from complications of Parkinsons disease.

Dorothy was an avid gardener. Her green thumb allowed her to give family and friends produce, canning and baked goods. No one ever left Dorothy’s house without a gift; often her famous cookies, poppyseed rolls or kolaches. She baked dozens of her famous honey cookies every Christmas and lovingly gave them as gifts. Dorothy spent countless hours tending her flower garden, an amazing array of color enjoyed by all. She was a skilled seamstress. Her specialty was crocheting rag rugs. Dorothy made hundreds of rugs over the years and gave them to friends and family.

Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She dearly loved her daughters, three sons-in-law, eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. They all survive. Dorothy was a devout Catholic. Her faith helped her throughout her life. She will always be remembered for her bright smile and positive outlook on life.

She leaves behind many friends and staff at Wellington Place. The family would like to thank all involved for the compassionate care Dorothy received. A special thanks to Dr. Locke and his team at WCMH Home Health and Hospice.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Eileen (Don) Kipp, Ossian, IA; Patty (Duane) Novak, Rochester, MN and Deb (Dewey) Nesler, Rochester, MN. Grandchildren: Julie (Dennis) Reidel, Mason City, IA; Jon (Jess) Kipp, Festina, IA; Michelle (Dan) Dietzenbach, Festina, IA; Melissa (Mike) Schwan, Vinton, IA; Jason (Lori) Novak, Rochester, MN; Matt (Heidi) Novak, Rochester, MN; Zach (Jenna) Nesler, Minneapolis, MN and Noah Nesler, Shoreview, MN. Great grandchildren: Claire and Lucas Reidel; Adeline, Dillon and McKenna Kipp; Ryan, Derek and Anna Dietzenbach; Hudson and Ava Schwan; Andrew, Zoei, Lila and Violet Novak; Ella, Nora and Ruby Novak; Ellie Nesler and Avery Nesler. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and close friends; Alyce Bartelt and Janet Uhlenhake.
