OBITUARY.
Martin V. Kidder died at his home in. West Decorah on Sunday evening, March 23d. His friends have observed for some time that Mr. Kidder’s health was not good, yet he had been actively engaged in business during the fall and winter. Early last week he was taken sick and a physician was called on Thursday. He suffered severely with a complication of diseases but the immediate cause of his death was congestion of the brain.
Mr. Kidder was born In Claremont, N. H July 18, 1839, and came west in the early sixties. He lived for short times at Rice Lake, Minn.. Lansing, Castalia and Ossian, and for about twenty-four years he has been a resident of Decorah. In 1868 he was married to Mary S. Stratton at Rice Lake. Ten years later she died at Ossian, Ia. Afterward he was married to Mrs. Sophia Allison, who survives him.
We have frequently heard Mr. Kid¬er speak of his conversion in New Hampshire when he was about nineteen years of age. He has enjoyed his christian experience and has led an active christian life. He was one of the con¬tituent members of the first Baptist church of Decorah, and he was seldom absent from its service when it was possible for him to be present.
His sons Edward of Harmony, Harley of Chicago, and daughter Mrs. Maud Kelley of Waukon were present at his death and their families joined them at the funeral.
The funeral was held at the Baptist church on Wednesday, the 26th. The services were conducted by the pastor. Rev. J. W. Allen, who spoke from Matthew 6:33 and John 14:2. The church was filled with members, neighbors and friends who had come to extend their sympathy to the mourning family.
Besides the immediate family there were present at the funeral Mr. and Mrs. Col Brady, Mrs. O. P. Kidder of Claremont, Minn . Mrs. Henry B. Avery of Dubuque, her son Siegel Avery, and Mrs. Greenleaf of Waukon.

—In the obituary of M. V. Kidder last week the name of his second wife was given as Mrs. Allison. It should have been Mrs. Allison Collier.
