On Friday the community was greatly shocked when word was received that the genial conductor, W. W. Foote, whose run was between Preston and La Crosse, came to his death at the former place the evening before, by the train running over him. We have not been able to get the particulars. We only know he had been a conductor on the narrow gauge ever since it was built, and later on the broad gauge; and was often spoken of by the traveling public as one of the kindest and most agreeable men filling that position you often see. The sympathy of all who have had the pleasure of being counted among the friends of the family goes out to the afflicted wife and children in this, their hour of deep sorrow.
