Mrs. Thomas Burgess.
Mrs. Thomas Burgess died at her home in Bluffton twp., Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1910, after a stroke of apoplectic paralysis. Catherine Gavan was born in Elgin, Huntington county. Quebec, Canada, July 20, 1831 and was married to Thos. Burgess in November, 1858. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Burgess moved to Michigan and in 1864 to Wisconsin. In 1866 they came to Winneshiek county. Five sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Burgess. Of them two survive:—Charles of Bluffton and George of Cresco. The funeral services were conducted at the Bluffton Methodist Episcopal church, August 25, 1910, Rev. W. M. Lemen of Decorah officiating.— Decorah Journal.
