Caryl Ann Kostman Leiran was born December 21, 1945, to Paul and Dora (Cooper) Kostman of Postville, IA. She attended Ludlow #9 school and graduated from Postville High School. Growing up, Caryl worked hard on the family farm, tending the garden and occasionally snake and squirrel hunting with her brothers.

On July 26, 1964, Caryl married her high school sweetheart, Gary Leiran, at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, IA. They started their life together in Waukon and lived in a few other locations including: Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Hartford, CT, Ridgeway, Decorah, and currently in rural Frankville.

Caryl cared for her four children dearly. Caryl and Gary also worked together in road construction with the Fred Carlson Company. After retiring from road construction, they then owned the Old Store in Frankville.

Caryl was an avid reader and enjoyed vegetable gardening and her flowers. She also liked watching her birds from her living room window. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Days of our Lives, never missing an episode. She enjoyed time with her husband, rock n roll dancing, listening to music, and traveling the country. They spent time at the casino and playing cards with family. Family was the top priority for Caryl; she always made time for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
