Ridgeway, Jan. 20,1903. Almost like a bolt of lightning from a clear sky was the news received by the friends of Mrs. Adele Hickey-Ashall that she had died at the hospital at Chicago, Tuesday, Jan. 13. Her mother had been summoned to her bedside but failed to get there in time, as she sank so rapidly.
Adele May Hickey was born at McGregor, Iowa, May 28th, 1863. When about three years of age she came to Ridgeway with her parents, and except for two years spent at school at St. Mary’s Academy, Prairie du Chien, she spent her girlhood and early womanhood days in Ridgeway. She was united in marriage to Mr. Fred Ashall, Dee. 20, 1883, and moved with him to St, Hilliare, Minn. From there they moved to Hastings, Neb., then to Denver, Col., and from there to Helena, Mont. Three children were born to them. Othmar, a baby boy, died while a baby, and little Dorris, six years of age, died just three years ago.
Alter the death of her little girl Mrs. Ashall was never well, and about a year and a half ago it was decided that she should go to Chicago for treatment. Since that time she has been slowly improving in health and it was thought that in a very few weeks she would be able to return to her home. But Oh! what, a sad homecoming it has been for her devoted husband and loving mother. She leaves one daughter, Blanche, just when it seems its though she needs the loving care and guiding hand of a mother. One brother is also left to mourn her loss. The funeral was held from the M. E. church here Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17, Rev. V. E. Hall officiating.
Mrs. Ashall was a writer of some prominence, at one time having been correspondent for the Woman’s Club of Colorado. She has written for several magazines and had a book almost ready for the publishers. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, and many hearts will ache with her loved ones, for she leaves a gap that will be impossible to fill. At the time of her death she was a member of the Episcopal church at Helena. Mrs. Ashall was a great friend of Mrs. Annie McHugh-Ahern of Cresco, whose who was so suddenly brought to a close just a few weeks ago.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Ridgeway Cemetery shows the year of her birth as 1864.
