Death of Another Pioneer.
On Saturday evening last about 6:30 o’clock at his home in this city, Tollef Vick Sr. died suddenly of heart disease. For over a year Mr. Vick has been ailing more or less but on the day of his death felt no worse than usual. After eating his supper he arose and walked to a couch where he sat down and complained of a pain in his chest, he asked one of his daughters to get him something to relieve it and immediately fell backward on the couch, dead. Mr. Vick was born in Norway, June 7, 1832, and came to America when he was twenty-one years old. For a few months after coming to this country he stopped in Wisconsin but latter settled in the northwest corner of Springfield township, where he resided up to about three months ago. Either just previous or just after coming to America, Kjerste Lundsrud became his wife. To them ten children were born, eight of whom are living. These are Mrs. Carrie Hokaasen of Decorah, Iowa, Mrs. Rachel Tufte of Chicago, Mary, Inger, Christina, Tollef and Ole who live here in town and Kute who lives on the farm. Mrs. Vick died about sixteen years ago. The funeral will be held this afternoon, brief services at the house preceding services at the First Lutheran church. The remains will lie buried in the Norwegian cemetery.
