Another pioneer settler gone. Mrs. Lydia Estey passed to the great beyond at the coming in of the New Year.
Lydia Huntly was born in Adirondack, Essex Co.. New York. June 30, 1832, was married June 1, 1850, to George W. Estey at Fort Edward where she lived until three years later, when she moved to Moneek, Iowa, where she has since resided. Only one child was born to them, Ida, who proceeded her sixteen years ago. Her aged husband, an adopted son, George, and three grand children are left to mourn their loss. She was a kind and affectionate wife and mother and a good neighbor. Many there are who will remember the pleasant hours spent with her and regret that they will see her no more. Mrs. Estey has been In poor health for nearly a year past, having had light strokes of paralysis. At last the final stroke came, leaving her helpless, one side paralyzed and unable to speak or swallow. At the time of her death she had been forty seven days without food. The funeral services were held Saturday forenoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Ross of Castalia, with burial at the Centennial cemetery by the side of her daughter.
