Colonel Bentley Rites Held July 13 At Bluffton Church

Funeral services were held Wednesday for Colonel Bentley, 72, at 1 p.m. at the Steine’s Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at the Bluffton Community Church, the Rev. M Buker officiating.

Colonel Bentley died Sunday morning, July 10, at his farm home in Bluffton Township.

The pallbearers were Sam Cassel, Harry Harvey, Don Baker, August Bergmann, Roy Snell and Vern Porter. Members of the floral committee were Mrs. Harry Harvey, Mrs. Vern Porter and Mrs. Roy Snell.

Mr. Bentley was born in Winneshiek County where he attended Bluffton Township rural schools. On January 7, 1915, he was married in Decorah to Lilly Emery who survives.

Survivors include one son Harold Bentley of Norway, Iowa, two stepchildren Mildred Bentley of Cresco and Jesse Emery of Waterloo, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and three brothers, Lloyd and Laurence, both of Cresco, and Guy Bentley of near Bluffton.

One daughter May Bentley died in infancy.
