Burre Olson was born in Holtaalen, Norway, January 20, 1811, and died in Hesper, Iowa, September 28, 1904. Mr. Olson was married to Guri Nysethvold in the spring of 1833. She passed on before May 20, 1889. Mr. Olson taught parochial school twenty-eight years, and for some years had drawn a pension from the government of Norway for his service as teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Olson came to America in 1856. In 1859 they went to Jackson, Minn., but at the time of the Sioux uprising in 1862 they returned to Hesper which was their home until their death. They raised a large family of children, three of whom, two sons and a daughter, are still living. For many years Mr. Olson was a deacon and teacher in the Hesper Lutheran church and no one in the community ever commanded the respect and esteem of his fellowmen in a greater degree than did he. The funeral services were held in the Lutheran church on the afternoon of the 1st, Rev A. O. Langhaugh and Rev Stub officiating, the former giving the address in Norwegian and the later in English. The church was filled, old friends of the deceased coming many miles to give their last tribute of respect to his memory. There were several present who have passed their four-score years, but in length of days Burre Olson had exceeded them all,
