George P. Painter, one of the very {first} pioneer residents of Decorah and Winneshiek county, died at his home in West Decorah Sunday evening after an illness of about two weeks from a complication of diseases probably due to blood poison following the extraction of a tooth. Mr. Painter was born in 1850 and was probably the first white child born in Decorah, or the county for that matter. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Painter. In 1871 he was married to Miss Annie Russell who, with two daughters and one son, survive him. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev E. G. Hunt officiating.
