Boy Killed at Washington Prairie.
In our Washington Prairie correspondence this week will be found an account of the accidental death of a ten-year-old boy from the breaking of a whiffle-tree while engaged in haying. The boy is a son of a tenant in J. S. Williams’ farm and is spoken of as a bright, capable little fellow.Source: Decorah Republican July 21, 1904 Page 7
The ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Peterson, who lives four miles west of Frankville, was accidentally killed Friday. He was driving a team on a hay fork when the whiffle-trees broke, a piece flying back and striking him on the head, causing instant death. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church Saturday.

A terrible accident happened at Chris. Smorstad’s Friday while they were hauling and unloading a load of hay. They had a team hitched to the tiny fork and one of the elder boys was driving it. Another young boy of ten years old was following behind the team. They told him several times to keep away but he didn’t mind, and kept following along. He just turned his head to look back when one of the whiffle-tree hooks broke and struck the boy in the neck and he dropped dead immediately. The funeral was held Saturday at two o’clock at the Pontopedant{sp} Lutheran church, Rev. Fjelde from Waukon officiating. We are all in sympathy with the family. Two years ago they laid to rest an older boy who died very suddenly.
