On the 24th another of Hesper’s early settlers was laid at rest in the Lutheran cemetery. Peter J Falstad was born in Norway about seventy-five years ago. Nearly forty years ago he and his wife came to Iowa and soon after reaching here settled in Hesper, which has ever since been their home. For a number of years Mr. Folstad worked at blacksmithing with C. Tamness. They prospered in the business and each became possessed of a good farm and also pleasant homes in the village. For some time Mr. Folstad has not been in good health, but his death on the morning of the 22d came as a surprise as he had been at work most of the previous week on a bee house and work shop. Although Mr. and Mrs. Folstad had no children of their own they had three by adoption, but one of whom, Mrs. Edward Nelson, could be at the funeral. He also leaves to mourn his loss the wife who has been a true helpmeet these many years.

Transcriber’s Note: His last name is spelled two different ways. There is even a difference in the spelling between Find a Grave and Iowa Graves Survey WPA. The Hesper Lutheran Cemetery shows Falstad; however, there isn’t a gravestone photo.
