Clair A. Steine, age 69, of Decorah, IA, passed away Sunday morning, June 30, 2019 at his home in Decorah.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Elks Lodge, 105 River Street, in Decorah.
Clair Arnold Steine was born on December 3, 1949 in Decorah, IA, to James and Loraine (Williams) Steine. He was baptized and confirmed at the Decorah Lutheran Church. Clair graduated from Decorah High School in May of 1968 where he wrestled at 98 pounds for the Decorah Vikings.
He married Sylvia Graves on November 23rd, 1968 at Decorah Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children: Blair Allen and Tricia Ann. Clair and Sylvia lived much of their married life in Decorah.
Clair was employed by Deco Products for 38 ˝ years as a tool and die maker and retired in 2009.
Clair, Sylvia, and kids enjoyed fishing the Upper Iowa river, the Mississippi in New Albin and many years going to the lake up north. Clair also enjoyed going salmon fishing on Lake Michigan with his dad Jim and son Blair. Clair loved deer hunting and enjoyed doing this with son Blair and granddaughter Hayley. His big adventure was in 2014 when he had the opportunity to go elk hunting with his nephew Jason Graves at his mountain top in Telluride, CO where on the first day he “bagged” a 10-point bull elk. He loved the outdoors and cutting wood with his dad, kids, and friends. Clair and Sylvia enjoyed many vacations to the Pacific Northwest, Mexico, and Victoria, British Columbia, and other places out west.
Clair is survived by his wife of 50 years Sylvia; his son Blair (wife Amy, and grandchildren Hayley, Gunnar, Ava, Van, and Gram), and daughter Tricia (Brad Hilton, and granddaughter Zoe); his aunt Sue Steine and family, Sister-in-law Kathy Steine and family, Genny and Tim Manatt, Tina and Mike Stacey, Michael and Brad Steine; Brother-in-law Lenny and Jane Graves, Jamie and Kristin and family; Frank and Patti, Jason and Mindy and family; Marsha Carmack, Rich and Sarah Carmack, Rachel and Allison, Michele and Mike Beecher, Ryan, Josh and Andrew; Diane Graves, Trevor, April, Abbie, Darrian; Jane and Mark Webb, T.J. and Katie and boys, Cody and Jodi and boys, and Nikki and Mark Williamson and boys; Mary and Rob Juve, Shelby, Carly and Omar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Loraine; his brother Mike in 2011; uncles and aunts, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lenny and Peggy Graves; and brothers-in-law Darrell and Gary Graves.
