On Dec, 29th, 1903, after an illness of ten weeks, Yocum Nelson, one of Hesper’s pioneers and one of her most esteemed citizens, passed away, and on the 31st his body was laid at rest in the Lutheran cemetery. More than fifty years ago Mr. Nelson settled on the farm where he died and where grew up a family of sons and daughters, who with the wife of many years remain to mourn the departure of a kind and loving husband and father.

Transcriber’s Note: Hesper Lutheran Cemetery records show he is buried there and was born in 1830; however, his name is spelled Jocum.
