DIED IN CALIFORNIA.
Edward Riley, an Old Timer, Passes Away in California.
Intelligence came by mail to E. J, Riley, last Monday, that his aged father, Edward Riley, had just passed away. This event occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Bonestel, in Ventura, Cal., with whom he had lived for thirty-one years. No details relating to it have yet been received.
Mr. Riley was born in London, England, Nov. 9th, 1819, and therefore had lived to the good old ago of over 84 years, and nearly all of these were years of activity. He came to this country in 1855, and located at Decorah in the year following, with his wife and five children. One son, John, died in 1869, and his wife passed away in 1872. The surviving children are Edward J, and Daniel Riley, Mrs. Margaret Vine, and Mrs. Mary A. Bonestel. Upwards of twenty years ago he went to California with the latter, and that has since been his home.
Deceased was a devoted member of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and will be remembered by old acquaintances as a quiet, genial and lovable old gentleman. His remains were buried yesterday in Ventura.
