Obituary.
Amasa Phippin was born in Jefferson. New York, December 16, 1827, and was at the time of his death aged 80 years, 7 months and 6 days. At the age of twenty-three years, he was married to Miss Hannah Nelson, who preceded him in death fifteen years ago. To this union nine children were born, and seven of them are left to mourn his loss — four boys and three girls—Alonzo and Chester, of Mitchel Township, Wisconsin; George, of Lawton, Oklahoma; Henry, of Granger, Minnesota; Lois Doolittle, of Sand Point, Idaho; Mary Phippen, of San Francisco, California, and Diana Sears, of Ridgeway, Iowa, with whom he has made his home the past twelve years, until his death July 22, 1908.
In 1885, Mr. Phippen moved from New York to Wisconsin, and later to Iowa in 1896.
He served his country in the Civil War, enlisting in Co. H 14th Wisconsin Volunteers in 1864 and was honorably discharged at the close of the war in 1865 at which time he had been in the service a year and eight months.
Funeral services were conducted last Friday from the house and the M. E. church, Rev. Young officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Ridgeway Cemetery.—Ridgeway Review.

Transcriber’s Note: His surname is spelled two different ways; however, his gravestone is spelled Phippen.
