Marian Matilda Hosper, age 86, of Calmar, IA, was met by the angels at Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah and carried home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Calmar, IA., with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery following the service.

Friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m., until 11:00 a.m., at the church on Tuesday morning. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Marian was born November 12, 1932 to Frank and Mayme (Holub) Klimesh. She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School through her sophomore year and graduated from Calmar High School.

Marian married David Charles Hosper on August 16, 1952. Together they raised three sons. Marian was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Rosary Society for over 66 years. She was employed at the Bucheit Grocery Store, NorEg, and joined her husband in running the family business (Winco Farm Supply) that they purchased in 1980. She worked there until a couple of years ago when her health began to fail.

Marian loved her gardens and flowers. She enjoyed walks in the woods, especially when the morel mushrooms were out. She could identify everything from Dutchmen breeches to wild orchids, and the very rare lady slippers just to name a few. She enjoyed oil painting and could be found sitting in a well-lit window on a cold, bright winter day, working on making sure her art work was just right. She loved watching basketball games on TV, having been a basketball player herself during her high school years. She kept her mind sharp by working on crossword puzzles daily. Feeding and watching the birds on her birdfeeders was a constant joy regardless of the season. Her Dachshund dogs were always treated with the attention only reserved for “best friends” which they were to her. And she had such a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marian is survived by her sons: Richard (Teena) Hosper of Calmar, Steve (Cheryl) Hosper of Melbourne, IA, and Sam (Kerri) Hosper of Naperville, IL. Grandchildren: Nathan (Jessica) Hosper of Owatonna, MN, Derrick (Natalie) Rogers of Cedar Falls, IA, Dustin Rogers (Norah Sams) of Grundy Center, IA, Jessica (Rick) Brimmer of Waterloo, IA, Kyle Hosper of Chicago, IL, Carly Hosper of Simpsonville, SC, Neal and Haley Hosper of Naperville, IL. Great Grandchildren: Avery, Cassandra, & William Hosper of Owatonna, MN, Ellyn and Hunter Rogers of Cedar Falls, IA, and Hayden Rogers of Grundy Center, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews, and, of course, her companion of 8 years, Fritz (her Dachshund).

Marian was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Mayme (Holub) Klimesh. Husband: David. Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: John and Agnes (Schneberger) Hosper. Brothers: Morris Klimesh, Elmer (Martha) Klimesh, and Frank (Mary Lou) Klimesh. Sister-in-law: Cleo Mae (Paul) Gerlich. Nephew: Vince Gerlich. Niece: Maryet Rowell.
