Word has been received of the death of “Aunt” Martha Battey, on March 27th at Salem, Oregon. Mrs. Battey and her husband, the late Nicholas Battey, were among the pioneers of Hesper and for many years held a prominent place in the community and especially in the Friends church. They had a quite large family but they are scattered and we hope doing good work in their respective callings.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in Lee Mission Cemetery in Salem, Oregon and that she was born December 10, 1818 and died March 27, 1905.
