The people of our town were very much shocked Wednesday evening to hear of the death of one of our citizens, that of Mrs. Faley. She had been sick for a couple of weeks, but not alarmingly so, and Wednesday afternoon she was worse and Dr. Emmons advised sending for Dr. Swezey, but doctors couldn’t save her, and in the evening she passed away. The sons, Clarence and Charley, came from South Dakota, a daughter from Oelwein, but another daughter in Montana was unable to reach her. The other children were near. Maria Corry was born near Rock River, Mich., Nov. 19, 1843, and came to the end of life at her home in Burr Oak, Iowa, Dec. 13, 1905. In the year 1863 when the young state of Iowa was filling with eastern people, she came to a new home at Ossian. Was married to John Faley May 13, 1870, and has lived in Burr Oak for many years. Four sons and four daughters were born unto them, all but one present at the funeral, which was conducted at the M. E. church Sunday morning, Dec. 17th, and attended by a large gathering of neighbors and friends, and she was tenderly laid to rest beside her husband in our cemetery, who has had a place there less than three years. The sympathy of all is with the family.
Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Burr Oak Cemetery shows the spelling of her last name as Failey.
