OBITUARY.
Tollev Halvorson was born in 1829. He came to America from Norway in 1847. In those days it was no small undertaking for a young man to make such a journey into the unknown. It was as parting for life. Though the youngest of the family he came alone, and without other means than stout limbs and a courageous heart. He was three years in Wisconsin and three years in California, coming to Iowa in 1854, and settling on the farm in Military township, on which he died.
He was twice married, the first time to Eliza Ross in 1855, and the second time to Anna Estrem in 1883. There are two daughters living of the first marriage, and one son of the second.
Mr. Halvorson was converted to the Lord in his youth and has been a consistent Christian, and a church member well nigh through his whole life. He has been honest and trustworthy in all his dealings, of a very hopeful and cheerful disposition, and this helped him greatly during the trying times of sickness, he never complained nor became despondent though he was sick for nearly six years.
Only one month was he bedfast and helpless, he died a beautiful and triumphant death at four o’clock of the morning of August 31st, and was followed to his grave by many friends the following day. A good and just man is gone, blessed is his memory.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone photo in Springfield Cemetery shows he was born April 15, 1829 and died August 31, 1905.
