A Good Man Departed.
The death of G. L. Vance of Joliet, Ill., which called the Vance brothers of this place to that city last Saturday removed from that community a man of high character and marked excellence. In a general way the Joliet News says this of him:—
“The name of G. L. Vance holds a high place in the esteem of the public, he was a man of excellent qualities and of firm convictions—kindly, affectionate, untiring, keen in all his undertaking, a scholar and a gentleman—one of those citizens whose departure will be seriously felt. There was probably no better known man in Joliet, and there are marked manifestations of sorrow among those who have had more or less intimate associations with him during his long and honorable business career in Joliet."
The details given fully sustain the foregoing. Mr. Vance was the eldest of the family of Aaron and Lucinda Vance, and the first one to depart of a family of four sons and two daughters. His aged father also survives him. He was an active member of the Baptist church, and by his devotion and zeal ranked high among his associates.Transcriber’s Note: Find-a-Grave indicates this was George Livermore Vance who was born March 13, 1839 and died August 19 1905.
