Lloyd Eugene Monroe

Lloyd Eugene Monroe was born October 25, 1928, in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa, to Thomas Franklin Monroe and Ella Wilhelmina Schroeder Monroe. He passed away Friday, February 27, 2004, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. He had reached the age of 75 years, 4 months, and 2 days.

He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. Lloyd attended the Castalia School.

On June 2, 1951 Lloyd was married to Betty Jean Jacobson in the Stavanger Lutheran Church by the Reverend Fiskerbeck. To this union six children were born. They farmed in the Castalia area.

Lloyd enjoyed farming. He was well known for his collection of Minneapolis-Moline tractors and antique cars, for which he had constructed a museum on his farm. He liked to give tours to visitors to his museum. Even though Lloyd had a severe hearing loss for the past ten years, he still enjoyed his bluegrass and country music.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Tiffany Monroe, who died in 1988, a sister, Vila Mae Schultz Reinhardt, brothers-in-law, Arnold Eugene "John" Jacobson (Jr.) and Robert Jacobson, a sister-in-law, Mary Jacobson, and his father- and mother-in-law, Arnold and Hilda Jacobson.

Surviving are his wife, Betty, his children and 17 grandchildren, Debra (Alvin) Hageman, Ossian, IA, Amber, Adam (fiance, Katie Perrinjaquet), Ashley, April; Dianne (Steve) Hageman, Ossian, IA, Valerie, Kimberly, Stephanie, Timothy; Kristi (Harold) Hageman, Ossian, IA, Trevor (Tori), Tara, Trisha, Tabatha; Kale (Linda) Monroe, Castalia, IA, Thomas, Michelle, Andrew; Neal (Berit) Monroe, Ossian, IA, Collin, John; Ryan Monroe, Decorah, IA.

Also surviving is a brother, Merle (Juanita) Monroe, Castalia, sisters- and brothers-in-law, Margorie (Jim) Monroe, West Union, Harold (Edna) Jacobson, Mabel, MN, Gordon (Judy) Jacobson, Clermont, Pat Jacobson, Hawkeye, Laverne Jacobson, West Union, Lois (Lyle) Johansen, West Union, Judy (John) Hyman, Postville, and many nieces and nephews.

Casket Bearers: Trevor Hageman, Adam Hageman, Timothy Hageman, Thomas Monroe, Dean Monroe, Roger Monroe.

Honorary Casket Bearers: Lonnie Holthaus, Dennis Lensing, Denis Blumhagen, Dale Bodensteiner, Eugene Szabo, Francis Wenthold.

Visitation: Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004; 3:00-8:00 P. M.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and lunch, which will be served in the church basement following the service.

Lloyd is buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery, located north of Castalia, Iowa.
