Agatha Hoffman, age 95, of Ionia, IA died Friday, February 22, 2019, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass.

Interment will be held in St. Boniface Cemetery, Ionia with Dave Hoffman, Tony Hoffman, Pat Hoffman, Brian Kellogg, Amy Kilcher and Jackie Zeien serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton where there will be a 7:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church in Ionia on Thursday.

Agatha Dorothy Hoffman was born April 26, 1923, in rural Festina, IA, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Elsbrend) Tieskoetter and moved with her family to a farm by Ossian when she was young. She attended St. Francis De Sales Catholic School until the eighth grade. Agatha helped take care of her nieces and nephews and other families in the area who needed help.

She met Jack Hoffman when her sister, Hedwig, was dating Jack’s brother Joe. The couple was married on October 30, 1945. To this union five children were born, Betty, Don, Ed, Bob, and Diane.

Agatha loved her flowers and always had a big garden. She helped Jack with the farm, milking the cows and doing the chores. She sold eggs in Ionia for grocery money.

Agatha loved to quilt and made a quilt for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She helped the ladies of St. Boniface with their quilting for many years. Monday was her favorite day because she got to quilt all day and play bingo in the evening.

Agatha is survived by two daughters, Betty Bynon of Ionia, IA, Diane (Larry) Kellogg of Ionia, IA; three sons, Don Hoffman of Ionia, IA, Ed (Shirley) Hoffman of Ionia, IA, Bob Hoffman of Ionia, IA; seventeen grandchildren and twenty nine great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Anita Tieskoetter.

She joins her husband Jack; son-in-law, Dave Bynon; grandson, Joe Kellogg; great-grandson Ryan Hoffman; five brothers, Joe, Louis, Frank, Paul, and Fonse Tieskoetter; two sisters, Helen Hemesath and Hedwig Hoffman.
