Marjorie Moe, age 99, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, IA.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, 1725 Washington Prairie Rd., rural Decorah, with Rev. Jenny Edinger presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00pm on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah and also after 10:00am at the church on Monday morning.

Marjorie Eileen (Bakkum) Moe was born on September 11, 1919 the daughter of Eilert and Irene (Barthell) Bakkum near Waukon, IA. She was baptized on October 5, 1919 and confirmed on October 30, 1932 at the Old West Paint Creek Church, rural Waukon. Marjorie graduated from Waukon High School and received her teaching certificate from Waukon Junior College. She taught for two years in a rural one room school house, Bakkum School Center #4, before marrying Earl Moe on June 9, 1943 at the Old West Paint Creek Church. Together, they had six children. Marilyn, JoAn, Sharon, Donna, Dale and Arlyn. Marjorie and Earl farmed together in rural Decorah before retiring and moving to town in 1977. Marjorie stayed home and raised her children as well as being involved in the Church Choir and the Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School, was a 4H leader, sang in the Farm Bureau Chorus, cooked at the 4H Camp and worked at the Senior Meal Site. She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, playing the piano, playing cards, dancing, scrapbooking, collecting moose trinkets and she loved going to all of her grandchildren’s events.

Marjorie is survived by her children: Marilyn Sensor, Decorah, IA; JoAn Headington, Waverly, IA; Sharon Cook, Waterloo, IA; Donna (Dennis) Zidlicky, Decorah, IA; Dale (Joan) Moe, Eau Claire, WI and Arlyn (friend: Pam Pahl) Moe, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Kevin (friend: Alana) Sensor, Kim (Matt) Becker, Karla (Carlton) Bakken, Jerry (Jennifer) Headington, Janet Headington, Jim (Barb) Headington, Billy Cook, Kellie Cook, Dean (Casey) Zidlicky, Don (Karrie) Zidlicky, Lisa Moe Meierkort, Justin Moe, Kyle Moe, Charlie Moe, Tonya (friend: Jen) Moe, Shannon (friend: Bruce) Moe, Tesha (friend: Mike) LeBahn and Jessica (Morgan) Solberg along with many great and great great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Earl. Parents: Eilert and Irene (Barthell) Bakkum. Brothers: Barthell (Muriel) Bakkum and LaVerne. Sister: LaGertha (Paul) Sherman. Father and mother-in-law: Jens and Marie (Borseth) Moe. Sons-in-law: Chuck Sensor and Bill Cook. Earls brothers and sisters along with numerous nieces and nephews.
