Arla Mae “Ginger” Hirsch, 97, of Eau Claire, Wis., formerly Charles City, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at the Heritage Memory Care Home in Eau Claire. A funeral service for Arla Hirsch is at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Hauser Funeral Home, with Pastor Wendy Johannesen from West St. Charles United Methodist Church officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Visitation is at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Friday.
Arla was born to Carl and Ida (Erickson) Borseth June 11, 1921, in Decorah. She married Melvin Wesley Brown June 11, 1939. To this union two sons were born. Sadly, Melvin passed away in 1967. In 1967, Arla started working for the Rockford school district in the cafeteria, where she worked for 25 years. She retired in 1992. Arla married Lester Hirsch in 1971. They farmed outside of Charles City until 2008, when Lester passed away. In 2012, Arla moved to Heritage Assisted Living in Eau Claire, Wis.
Arla is survived by one son, Scott (Rhonda) Brown of Elk Mound, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Brown of Cedar Park, Texas; four granddaughters: Suzanne (Gabe) Garza of Leander, Texas, Stephanie (Rachael) Brown of Leander, Texas, Nicole Brown of Eau Claire, Wis. and Kelly (Kevin) Carrier of Hudson, Wis.; four great-grandchildren: Jonathan Scott Carl Brown of Eau Claire, Wis., Lauren Rebecca and Reis Wesley Carrier of Hudson, Wis. and Hunter Nathaniel Garza of Leander, Texas; along with many nieces and nephews.
Arla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; husband, Lester; son, Larry Dean Brown; sister, Sadie Ward; five brothers: Merle, Norman, Stanley, Clifford and Donald Borseth; along with numerous other relatives.
