Duane D. Malli, age 80, of Mechanicsville, IA, and formerly of rural Harmony, MN, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Mechanicsville Specialty Care in Mechanicsville, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, one hour before the service, at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Duane David Malli was born April 12, 1938, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Rene and Wilhelmina (Zeien) Malli. Duane attended the Webb School in Fremont Township and Harmony High School in Harmony, MN.

Duane worked on the family farm with his Dad and family, and his brother Sylvester for years. Duane also helped the neighboring farmers with harvesting, etc. He lived on the home place in Fremont Township for many years until 2008 when he moved to Mechanicsville, IA to be near his sister.

Duane was a longtime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock. He was a big sports fan, including football and baseball, liked to fish and really liked his holidays off.

He was preceded in death by his father Rene on April 10, 1971, his mother Wilhelmina on May 10, 2000, and his brother Sylvester on March 3, 2009.

Duane is survived by one brother, Bernard Malli of Oregon, IL; three sisters: Kathryn Dwyer of Chana, IL, Margaret (Richard) Dick of Lodi, WI and Susan Zeman of Mechanicsville, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
