Helen Elizabeth Hageman, age 85, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Friday, December 14, 2018, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA, surrounded by loved ones.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 21 2018, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00pm, on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville, Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Friday morning.

Helen Elizabeth (Heying) Hageman was born on May 5, 1933 the fourth child of fourteen to Joe and Rose (Bohr) Heying in Festina, IA. She attended St. Mary’s School in Festina through eighth grade. Helen married Melvin Hageman on September 29, 1953 in Festina. Together they farmed and raised their family near Fort Atkinson, IA. Helen worked at Wapsi Produce in Decorah for twenty years and at Calmar Foods for ten. Helen enjoyed playing cards and watching baseball (Dodgers). She most enjoyed spending time with her family, supporting their activities, and bringing them together, as she was an amazing mother and grandmother. Helen looked forward to Sunday's that were spent making dinner for her children and grandchildren, teaching them card games and handing out ice cream cones. Helen would then enjoy the remaining afternoon with her brothers and sisters.

Helen is survived by seven children: Daniel (Laurie) Hageman, Waucoma, IA; Sheryl (Perry) Sievert, Calmar, IA; Timothy (Lori) Hageman, Ossian, IA; Patrick (Gretchen) Hageman, Marshalltown, IA; Joseph (Cheryl) Hageman, Calmar, IA; Sue (Darin) Einwalter, Fort Atkinson, IA and Sally (Mark) Schwartzhoff, Fort Atkinson, IA. One daughter-in-law: Sandy Hageman, Calmar, IA. Twenty-three grandchildren; Cassandra (Corey) Tieskoetter, Ali (Matt) Halverson, Tanner Hageman; Hailey Hageman, step grandson: Jayme Kimber; Bryan (Jamie) Sievert, Kyle (Jessy) Sievert, Tyler (Jocelyn) Sievert; Courtney (Steven) Huinker, Nolan and Colton Hageman; Reese, Bennett, and Luke Hageman; Ryan, Abby, and Logan Hageman; Toril, Josie, William, and Addyson Einwalter and Monica, Rodney and Emmett Schwartzhoff. Eleven great-grandchildren: Gracie, Tate, Nash, Hal, Ryker, Caleb, Carter, Chloe, Nolan, Aaleyah and Nicholas. Sisters and brothers: Ernie and Kay Heying, Calmar,IA; John and Louise Heying, Calmar, IA; Doris Bouska, Hawkeye, IA; Carl and Carol Heying, Dubuque, IA; Lorna and Cletus Bouska, Waucoma, IA; Robert and Tina Zoppel Heying, Napa, CA; Mary Ann Trewin, Waucoma, IA; and Sue Heying, Calmar, IA. Sisters-in-law: Pat Heying, Ossian, IA; Marion Heying, West Union, IA, and many nephews, nieces and friends including one special Norwegian foreign exchange student, Toril Stanton, England.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on June 11, 2014. Her son: Rodney Hageman on October 6, 1997. Parents: Joe and Rose (Bohr) Heying. Brothers and sisters: Greg and Helen Heying, Paul Heying, Dennis Heying, and Betty and Jim Bruess. Father and mother-in-law: Felix and Monica (Holthaus) Hageman. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Dick Trewin, Jim Bouska, Julius and Irene Hageman, Carl and Margaret Hageman, Richard and Clara Mae Hageman, Gust Hageman, and Irene and Edmund Schmitz; Nephews: Jim Bruess, Charles Hageman, and Jerry Schmitz; and niece Kristie Foreman. Grand-nephew: Jeffery Schmitz.
