Dean Houdek, age 88, of Spillville died Friday, November 30, 2018 at his home in Spillville.

Dean’s wishes were that there be no formal services, there will be a private family service at a later date.

Dean Jerome Houdek was born on September 24, 1930 to Jerome and Alice (Reazak) Houdek .Dean graduated from Decorah High School in 1950. In December 1950 he joined the Air force and served from 1950 to 1954, stationed in Japan and Korea. He married Anna Schneberger at St. Benedict Church in Decorah on Thanksgiving day, November 25, 1954. Dean worked on construction from 1960 -1969, Haug stores in Spillville. 1969 -1990 he owned and operated his own business Houdek’s Plumbing & Heating. 1990-2008 he worked for Lang’s Dairy Equipment in Decorah. Dean was an avid fisherman who loved making fishing lures, one that his Grandson patented for him. Painting was another one of his hobbies, he gave the paintings away to family and friends.
Dean is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna Houdek. Daughters: Connie of Chicago, IL, Beth (Adrian) Novak of Onalaska, WI, Jolene (Randy)Aasum of Ossian, IA. Sons: Andrew (Ramona) Houdek of Fort Atkinson, IA, Eric (Julie) Houdek of New Hampton, IA. Grandchildren: Megan (Paul) Mackie of Chicago, IL, Amy (Andrew) Chatfield of Floyd, IA, Sarah (Everette) Cherriix of Las Vegas, NV, Heather Mallady of LaCrosse, WI, Anthony (Kim) of LaCrosse, WI, Bridget (Nat) Carolan of Rochester, MN, Ben (Annette) Bolson of Decorah, IA, Nathan (Tara) Lechtenburg and Neil (Emily) Fasbender of LaCrosse, WI, Matt (Ashlyn) Houdek of Cresco, IA, Andrew Klimesh of Cedar Rapids, IA, Caitlin Houdek of New Hampton, IA, and step-sons Chad and Lucas Aasum of Wisconsin. Along with 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His Brother David (Barbara) Houdek of Decorah, IA.

Dean was preceded by his son Daniel Houdek and nephew Kent Houdek. His parents Jerome and Alice Houdek, father and mother in-law Matt and Malene Schneberger, brother in-law Lester (Muriel) Schneberger, and sister in-law Kay Henry.
