Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)James P. "Jim" Bartheleme, age 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully on November 17, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Funeral Mass was held at the St. Matthew's Catholic Church on November 21, 2018 and interment at the St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jim was born on July 27, 1938 in Ossian, Iowa to Marcel "Marce" and Elnora (Goetsch) Barthelme. He graduated from DeSales High School in Ossian and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. On September 6, 1969 he married Margaret Neal. Jim worked in investments, sales, and at Sam's Club for many years. After he retired, Jim volunteered at the VA clinic. He was a very loyal person and had a strong work ethic. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all University of Iowa sports, St. Louis Cardinals, and CR Kernels games. Jim was quite the puzzle lover, spending time doing crosswords and Sudoku. He especially loved being a grandfather to his grandson Ryan and granddaughter Emma. He enjoyed attending their sporting, dance, and various other activities and family events.
He was preceded in death by his parents and left to mourn are his wife Margaret of 49 years; three sons Jay (Lisa), Matt, and Mark (Sara) Barthelme; grandchildren Ryan and Emma; and two sisters Kay (Buse-Peterson) of Colorado and Jeannie (Mohr) of Wisconsin.
The family extended their thanks to the men and women of the VA clinic in Cedar Rapids, the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Hospice of Mercy, St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and Manor Care teams of caregivers who provided wonderful support and care for Jim and his family
