Elaine Syverson, age 92, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, IA.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday November 5, 2018, at the Springfield Lutheran Church, 1969 Middle Calmar Road, Decorah, with Rev. Anita Nuetzsman officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday November 4, 2018, at the Springfield Lutheran Church and after 10:00 at the church on Monday.

In Lieu of flowers the family would like memorials sent to the Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice at 901 Montgomery Decorah Iowa 52101 or the Springfield Lutheran Church at P.O. Box 398 Calmar, Iowa 52132

Alice Elaine (Lee) Syverson was born August 23, 1926 at home in Frankville Township to John and Ida (Wilson) Lee. Elaine was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, attended country school, and graduated from Decorah High School in 1945. She married Ardell Syverson on June 19, 1946 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, and to this union six children were born. They farmed together until 1982 when they moved to Decorah. Elaine worked at Ronnie’s Café, RSVP and volunteered at the Winneshiek County Hospital. She was a very active member at Springfield Lutheran Church and in the Red Hat Society, an avid reader, great cook, and loved playing cards and “the slots”. Elaine was a dedicated mother and grandmother who always made the holidays for the family extra special with some unique twist. Elaine was always the “Hostess with the Mostess,” welcoming into her home friends, family, neighbors, and others who needed a substitute mom. She took pride in her cooking and all have agreed that her lefse, date filled cookies, and scalloped potatoes were the best they ever had.

Elaine is survived by: One son: Darryl (Shelly) Syverson, Strawberry Point, IA. Three daughters: Carryl Magnuson, Richfield, MN, Jackie Syverson and Judy Syverson both of Decorah, IA Six grandchildren: Tara (JT) Wyckoff, Amy (Rob) Lengeling, Tracy (Tony) Nicholls, Brad Syverson, Travis Syverson and Chad (Erin) McDermott. Eight great grandchildren: Mia and Ian McDermott, Liam and Gage Holmberg, Aida and Meyer Lengeling, Zoe and Frankie Nicholls. Sisters-in-law: Bonnie Syverson and Frances “Franny” Syverson, of Decorah. And many nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband: Ardell; twin sons: Ronald and Donald Syverson in infancy, Great grandson: Max Holmberg, her parents: John and Ida (Wilson) Lee, Her siblings and their spouses: Rev. Milo (Agnes) Lee, Vernon (Marcy) Lee, Harvey Lee as a child, Lily (Lloyd) Brown, Grace (Roger Dyrland and Gerald Finnegan) Finnegan, Ruth (Stanley Vorachek and Hilding Johanson) Johanson, Eloise (Andrew) Bakke and Hazel (Elmer) Wangsness. Brothers-in-law: Elwood and LaVerne Syverson. Father and Mother-in-law: Arthur and Alice (Estrem) Syverson.
