Obituary.
Mary T. Drew died December 2, 1902, after a lingering illness at the home of her brother Michael. Deceased was born in in{sic} Wineshiek{sic} county, April 22, 1875, had been a resident there for 18 years: moved to Howard county in 1893 with her brother. She was of a genial, kindly nature, a generous heart and nobel{sic} soul, the patient uncomplaining victim of her disease closed her eyes peacefully, and fortified by the last sacraments of the Catholic church of which she had been a faithful life member, surrendered her soul to her maker on the 2nd day of Dec. Death came to her not with frightful mein for she seemed to recognize its approach and ready to answer the final summons when it came unshrinkingly. Her concern seemed to be rather for those who watched over her with so much anxious solicitude than for herself, and her wish to spare them the pain she knew they must feel at the parting that she better than they, knew was inevitable.
Deceased is survived by her four brothers and one sister, John, Daniel, Michael and William, all of Cresco, and Mrs. Thomas Tierney of Washington. Furneral{sic} was from the Catholic church Wednasday{sic} morning, Rev. Father McCartey officiating; interment at the West Ridge cemetery near Waukon.

The hushed sweet voice,
Loved, lost, acquired,
Will thrill them there,
With love unfeigned.
But now we know not all is rest,
For those who believed God’s ways are best
We whom they loved, perhaps too well
Can love, love so, we cannot tell
That one in God’s sweet holy place,
Will meet them there all face to face.
The loved caress, the old sweet smile
God’s forever, earth’s but a while,
The night of grief all passed away,
And lost in one long loving day.
