A second railroad accident resulting in the death of Decorah people within a short time occurred at Decorah last Wednesday, when Charley Hargreaves, a son of John Hargreaves was run over by a car in the Milwaukee freight yards. The train had just been switching preparatory to making an evening run to Calmar, two sections of the train remaining on the main track. The boy attempted to make a coupling there but in some manner slipped and fell beneath the moving cars which severed one leg between the thigh and knee, and cutting the abdomen so as to expose the intestines. Doctors wore called at once, but an examination proved that he was injured so severely that death was but a question of time, He lived but a few hours after the accident, but was conscious nearly all of that time and talked freely about it. We glean from the Decorah Republican.

CARS CLAIM ANOTHER
Charley Hargreaves Run Over in Milwaukee Yards.
DEATH COMES IN THREE HOURS.
He was Attempting to Couple some Cars, Slipped and Fell under the Wheels.
The people of Decorah were again shocked last night to learn of a second railroad accident in which death resulted. Charley Hargreaves the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hargreaves, was run over by a car in the Milwaukee’s Decorah freight yards, and died soon after ten o’clock.
The train had been up to the Peterson woods to bring in the men who are at work surfacing the track, and the trainmen were engaged in setting out empty cars preparatory to the evening run to Calmar. They had made a switch throwing two separate sections of cars on the main track and one section on the side track. Charley went between the two sections on the main track to make a coupling when he slipped and fell, the cars passing over him and severing one leg between the knee and thigh, and inflicting a cut on the abdomen which exposed the intestines.
Ole Evenson saw him go under the wheels and called to the trainmen, who came at once. Dr. Barfoot was just returning from a call in the south part of town and he assisted in removing Charley from under the car and accompanied the men to the Hargreaves home near by. Dr. Stevens was also called, but an examination disclosed the injuries to be so severe that death was a question of but a few hours at most.
During much of the time after the accident the lad was conscious and rational. In response to questions concerning the accident he said he was told to set the brake and make the coupling, and this statement, we are told, is confirmed by other boys who were standing near. He said that he slipped and fell when he was between the cars.
For several years the cars have possessed a seeming irresistible influence upon this lad, as it has to many a youth, and his death should be a lesson to other boys to stay away from them.
The affliction that has been visited upon Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves is a hard one to bear, and in their bereavement they have the sympathy of all.
