Sr. Carol (Marchell) Hilby, OSF, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at Clare House.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 23, in Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1951, and made final profession of vows August 10, 1957. Sister received her bachelor’s degree from Briar Cliff University, Sioux City, Iowa, and attended Clarke University, Dubuque, Iowa. She ministered in Iowa as a teacher at North Washington, Ossian, Waterloo St. Edward’s and Dubuque Holy Trinity. In Illinois, she ministered at St. Mary of the Woods School in Chicago and at the Chicago Archdiocesan Office.
Sister is survived by her sisters Mary Ann (Paul) Burbach, Ione (Ralph) Turman, and Joan Hilby, brothers Jack (Rose) Hilby and Mark Hilby, nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared over 64 years of her life.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Hilby, and sisters and brothers-in-law Doris (LaVerne) Kuhle and Margaret (Bill) Burroughs.
