David Bruce Muether, 66, of Decorah, passed away peacefully July 17, 2018, after a brief illness. A special celebration of Dave’s life is Monday July 23, at 2 p.m. at McCaffrey’s Dolce Vita, 2149 Twin Springs Rd, Decorah. In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be made in his name to the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa. Online condolences may be left for the family at thorsonfuneralhome.com The family would like to thank the staff of Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis., for the respect and care they gave Dave and his family.
Dave was born Jan. 12, 1952, in Decorah, to parents Aaron Muether and Maxine Muether. He graduated from Decorah High School, class of 1970, and was able to wear his high school letter jacket until the end. After attending Luther College, he served in the U.S. Army, earning an honorable discharge. Dave liked to call himself the chief bottle washer and pizza cook of then popular restaurant, Café Deluxe. Later years found him working for the Decorah Public School systems and assisting with Taekwondo classes with the Luther College Taekwondo Club and Little Tree Taekwondo Clubs, both in Decorah. Dave was a lover of swimming, music, drums and his kitties. He had a big, kind heart and many commented on his passion for motorcycles, history and, of course, all living creatures.
Dave is survived by his life partner, Anna Linnell, Decorah; daughter, Karin Muether of Davenport; sisters, Mary (Dennis) Willson of Marion and Jean (Bob Hunter) Muether of Knoxville, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews, with a special bond with his niece, Kim Venable, of Knoxville, Tenn.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Aaron Muether and mother, Maxine Muether.
The Thorson Funeral Home of Viroqua, Wis., is proudly serving the family.
