Thompson, age 88, of Decorah, Iowa formerly from Calmar, Iowa were held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. Clergyman was Rev. Harvey Abrahmson and organist was Alan Sensor. Interment was in the Calmar City Cemetery, Calmar, Iowa.
Irene E. Thompson died on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, Decorah following a long illness. Irene Elizabeth Thompson was born on July 23, 1915 the daughter of Alfred and Amelia (Pederson) Olson in Clermont, Iowa. Irene attended country school near Clermont and graduated from the Clermont High School. She married Clarence Garfield Thompson on April 3, 1937 in Clermont. Irene worked in the food service department of the South Winn Schools and was a caregiver at the Sunset Home Retirement Center in Calmar. Irene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar. Irene was an avid and competitive gardener and enjoyed baking. Her greatest love was her family and taking good care of them.
Irene is survived by her daughter Judy Fishburn and husband William of Elgin, Illinois; one grandson, William Fishburn the III and one granddaughter Laura Richards and her husband John; three great-grandchildren, Thomas and Elizabeth Richards and Brandon Fishburn; two sisters Bessie Hirsch of Marshfield, Wisconsin and Julia Bernhardt of Waukon, Iowa and one brother, Leonard Olson of West Union, Iowa in addition to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence on February 4, 2001, two brothers Joseph and Olaf Olson and two sisters Agnes Ellis and Gladys Kobriger.
