A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at St. Michael’s.

Memorials preferred to The Spectrum Network, Decorah. (thespectrumnetwork.org).

Michael was born in Decorah June 29, 1954, to Victor and Lillian (Triska) Bina. Raised in Spillville, Michael attended St. Wenceslaus School. Michael graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar in 1972, and from Luther College in Decorah in 1976.

Michael married Diane Tverberg June 19, 1976, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Living in Bloomington, Minn., Michael worked for The Toro Company (1977-1981), Thermo-King (1981-1982) and Honeywell (1982-2016).
Michael loved his family and he loved God. He loved long conversations with his older brother and he loved playing with his nieces and nephews (“Up on shoulders, Uncle Michael!”) and watching them grow. Michael enjoyed watching Hogan’s Heroes, a show he watched with his father – a POW in Germany – while growing up.

Michael was a natural-born problem solver with strong mechanical and electrical talents. He was in junior high when he and his father, a tractor mechanic, restored an old Farmall tractor. Michael loved keeping up on tractor and farming advances. A perfect fall day for him would include watching a farmer working in his fields.
Michael was energized by interactions with others. He loved discussing politics and was passionate about smart investing. Michael loved sharing investment knowledge and resources with friends and family so that they could look forward to a stress-free retirement. Michael was active in both Bogleheads and AAII (American Association of Individual Investors).

Survivors include his wife, Diane Tverberg-Bina; brother, Marty Bina of Decorah; sisters-in-law Jean Bina (Ted McNally) of Monona; Gail Tverberg (Ben Setzer) of Kennesaw, Ga.; Pauline (Dennis) Shoemaker of New Berlin, Wis.; Elaine (Dietrich) Fabricius of Hendersonville, N.C.; Maureen Tverberg (Niki Athis) of Seattle, Wash.; and Lois Tverberg of Holland, Mich.; brother-in-law David (Lora) Tverberg of Owatonna, Minn.; and numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
