Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, Iowa, with Pastor Garry Birth officiating. Interment will be in United Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ridgeway.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bronchiectasis and NTM Research Registry through the COPD Foundation.

Marilyn was born in Decorah, Iowa, on September 15, 1936, the first of four daughters born to Henry and Irene (Rue) Aschim. Marilyn attended Ridgeway High School where she enjoyed cheer leading and was Homecoming Queen. Upon graduating in 1954, Marilyn pursued her nursing degree from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, and worked there for several years.

While caring for an elderly patient at Allen Memorial, her gentle demeanor was noted by the grandson—Roger Meythaler. Marilyn and Roger dated for about a year and then married on June 8, 1958, at Marilyn's family's church, Ridgeway Lutheran. After honeymooning in the Wisconsin Dells, they settled into their home in Waterloo, Iowa, where Marilyn continued working as a nurse and Roger was employed as a television repair technician.

Years later the couple moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where four boys were added to the family. Marilyn was a homemaker for a time, enjoying her children, flower garden, square dancing, and church activities. Eventually, after her boys were in school, she returned to nursing until she retired in 2001 from Mercy Medical Center.

In 2003 Marilyn and Roger sold their home and Roger's TV repair business and moved into Marilyn's childhood home on her family's farmstead in Ridgeway, Iowa. Over the years, they embarked on several home improvement and remodeling projects, maintained extensive vegetable and flower gardens, entertained family and friends, and remained active in their church—Waukon Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Waukon, Iowa.

Marilyn is remembered for her love of Jesus and her faith, her deep affection for her family and friends, her generous spirit and servant's heart, her beautiful singing voice, and her appreciation of God's creation—especially for flowers, cats, and bluebirds.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Roger, of Ridgeway, Iowa; four sons: Dave (Lois) Meythaler of Everett, Washington; Gary (Jennifer) Meythaler of Colbert, Washington; Mark (Amy) Meythaler of Burnsville, Minnesota; Glenn (Jolene) Meythaler of Grimes, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Micah, Emily, Isaac, Jesse, Hannah, Gavin, Brendan, Gretchen, and Kerstin; and one sister, Cindy (John) Hoines, Madison Lake, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: LeAnn Aschim and Cheryl (Aschim) Dauterman.
