FORT ATKINSON - Hildegarde E. Myers, 84, Fort Atkinson, died Monday, Dec 9, 2002 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah following a short illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at St. John's Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson with Rev. John Moser presiding. Mass servers were Todd and Megan Schmitt, Madison McKone and Luigi Rausch. Lectors were Brenda Sloan, Caroline Scheidel, Emily Hausman and Bernard Puffer. Offertory gifts were presented by Bethany Stammeyer, Gretchen, Taylor and Kelly Myers. Music was provided by the St. John's Choir and Harlan and Verda Mikota singing "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "To The One l Love".
Interment was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Fort Atkinson with Brad Wurzer, Adam Myers, Lyle Wurzer, Jill Kaeppel, Cynthia Myers, Sar¬ah Hausman, Greg Stammeyer and Kristen Stammeyer serving as casket bearers,
Chekal Chapel, Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson was in charge of arrangements.
Hildegarde Evelyn Herold was born on Nov. 2, 1918, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Zahasky) Herold, on a small farm near Little Turkey. She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, Spillville. She worked in Chicago at a Defense Plant during W.W.II, 1942- 1945. She then returned to the area and worked at a pharmacy in Cresco. She married Raymond Myers on Nov. 27, 1948 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville. They made their home in Fort Atkinson. Hilda enjoyed reading, playing pinochle and the piano and she especially loved roses. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane (Dean) Wurzer, Hawkeye, Lenora (Ronald) Hausman, Magna, UT and Gail (Steve) Stammeyer, Lawler three sons, Harold Myers, Alan "A.J." (Tammy) Myers and Mark Myers, all of Fort Atkinson; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Esther Myers, Fort Atkinson.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ray, in 1992; one grandson, Brian; three sisters, Hattie Puffer, Marcy Klimesh and Norma Herold and one brother, Arthur "Archie" Herold.
