Services held for Hattie Jirak, 97
Funeral services for Hattie Jirak of Spillville were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey with Rev. John Moser officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Turkey. Pallbearers were: Jeff Ira, Mark Balik, James Jirak, Vern Schmitt, Melvin Humpal, and Gordon Klimesh. Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Hattie, 97, died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah after a long illness.
Hattie Marie Jirak was born September 17, 1904 in Spillville, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Kortan) Klimesh. Hattie attended rural Winneshiek County and Spillville Parochial schools.
On September 27, 1923 she married Alois Jirak at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. They farmed near Little Turkey for many years. She retired and moved to Spillville and lived in Senior Housing until she entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in 1987.
She is survived by one daughter: Marlyn Murray of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Hattie was preceded in death by her husband Alis{sic} in 1984; one son: Howard; her parents; three brothers: Joseph, Frank and George; and nine sisters: (Josephine, Cecelia, Viola, Helen, Mary Klimesh), Barbara Novak, Agnes Jarosh, and Cecilie Humpal.
