Lewis Monroe

Lewis Earl Monroe, son of Lewis and Christena Monroe, was born on a farm near Castalia, on November 21, 1895, and spent his boyhood on this farm. For the past 30 years, he has lived around Albert Lea and Clarks Grove, Minnesota.

He lived alone in his home and was found Monday morning, September 28, by his neighbors, who had last seen him Saturday evening. His death was due to a heart attack.

He had worked 13 years for Wilson and Company at Albert Lea, and on several farms.

He was in the U. S. Navy in the First World War, and was a member of the Veterans' of Foreign Wars at Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Funeral services for Earl Monroe, 68, were conducted Wednesday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m., from the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. Burial was in Pleasant View cemetery at Castalia. Military honors were conducted by the Legion Post at Clermont and the flag was presented to his brother, Charles Monroe. Rev. Lee Roy Collins of Elgin officiated at the services.

His parents and two brothers, George and Ambrose, preceded him in death.

He is survived by six sisters, Goldie (Mrs. Guy Holtzman) of Fayette; Iva Michel of West Union; Abbie (Mrs. Charles Desotel) of Monona; Delia (Mrs. Raymond Steffens) of Randalia; Florence (Mrs. Gerald Gutcher) of Clermont; Irene (Mrs. Bernard Nathem) of Great Falls, Montana; and one brother, Charles, of Waterloo; besides a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
