Services Held For Mari Amelia Monroe
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 8, 1973, in Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, with the Rev. Arthur Tolo officiating for Mari Amelia Monroe, who passed away at the Decorah Hospital, February 4. Mrs. Gerald Hager was the organist for the service. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
Pallbearers were Kevin Monroe, Dale Monroe, Wayne Heins, David Monroe, Leo Alan Monroe and Michael Monroe.
Mrs. Mari Amelia Monroe daughter of J. M. Land and Rose Gordanier Land, was born November 17, 1899. She received her education in rural schools in Allamakee County and at Luana High School.
She was united in marriage September 7, 1920, to A. C. (Clark) Monroe of Castalia at Decorah, Iowa. They started farming near Castalia where she spent most of her life and then she spent the last several years as a resident of Senior Citizen Home in Ossian.
Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her husband in October, 1967, a brother, Joe Land, and her parents.
She leaves to remember her ten children: Alvin, Postville; Bernold, Luana; Curtis, Calmar; Virgil, Ossian; Mrs. Glen (Bernita) Heins, Luana; Forrest, Luana; Carroll, Warrensburg, Mo.; Fielden, Fredericksburg; Mrs. Ben (Rose Marie) Hemeseth, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Bob (Marlene) Schissell, Prairie du Chien; two sisters, Mrs. Emil (Pearl) Zurcher, Monona; Mrs. Beryl (Lena) Johnson, McGregor; 49 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
