Brent Edward Smith, 27, of Waukon, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at his home after a life long battle with diabetes. A Celebration of Life is Saturday, Feb. 10, at Vennehjem Community Village, 1102 Nordic Drive, Decorah, from 1 to 4 p.m., for family and friends.

Brent was born May 2, 1990, to Theresa (Ryan) Smith and the late Roderick Smith at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. He was baptized at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in Highlandville, and confirmed at St. John’s in Waukon. He graduated from Waukon High School in 2008. Brent was employed at Fareway in Waukon at the time of his death.

Brent’s family and friends were a huge part of his life; he always provided a helping hand with anything they asked of him and he always made a point to remember dates that were important to them, including birthdays and anniversaries. One could always count on Brent to make their day more special by knowing he was thinking of them on their special day.

Brent is survived by his mother, Theresa (Ryan) Smith of Decorah; one brother, Chris (Gretchen Feulner) Halweg Raleigh, N.C. and nephews, Lucian and Julian; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brent was preceded in death by his father, Roderick Smith of Waukon; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Lyla Smith of Waukon; maternal grandparents, Edward and Evelyn Ryan of Burr Oak.
