Dorothy R. Miller, age 89 of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Barthell O.E.S. Home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah, in the spring.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at First United Methodist Church.

Dorothy Regina (Harding) Miller was born March 20, 1928 in Eddyville, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Clarence L. and Alice C. (Kerr) Harding. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1946.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Dale Miller on March 2, 1947 at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. This union was blessed with three children: Randal, Renee and Russell.

Dorothy worked at Montgomery Ward in Oskaloosa and Decorah, in the Audubon School System, at Luther College in the Treasurer’s office, at Kemper Insurance Company in Mason City and then at Luther College again as a Cashier in the Union. She was active with the American Legion Auxiliary, Wellington Place Auxiliary, and was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, including Church Circle. She really enjoyed her Saturday morning coffee group at the Bakery, and then later at the Coop, and her weekday mornings with a McDonald’s coffee group. She liked to go to the Senior Center for Bingo and years ago would travel to Spillville for Bingo. This summer she got tired of living by herself so she “moved in” with 40 others at Arlin Falck Assisted Living where she enjoyed playing cards and afternoon coffee with her new friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Dale’s parents; her husband Dale on December 10, 2015; four siblings: Edna Akins, LeRoy Harding, Ethel Klein and Leonard Harding and their spouses; one nephew Jim Akins; two brothers-in-law and their wives; and a nephew-in-law, Robert Richards.

Dorothy is survived by her three children: Randal (Victoria) Miller of Davenport, IA, Renee (Randy) Olson of Decorah, and Russell (Lupe) Miller of Madera, CA; a nephew, Lee (Jan) Akins of California; three nieces, Jean (James) Dick of Nevada, Kay Richards of Iowa and Jo (Dennis) Murr of Minnesota; and great-nieces and -nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Arlin Falck Assisted Living or Barthell O.E.S. Home, 911 Ridgewood Drive, Decorah, IA 52101, W.M.C. Hospice, 901 Montgomery Street, Decorah, IA 52101, or First United Methodist Church, 302 W. Broadway St., Decorah, IA 52101.
