Donald Breitsprecher, age 83 of Cresco passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Accura Healthcare of Cresco.

Don was born July 23, 1934 on the family farm in Winneshiek County to Raymond and Martha (Tinderholt) Breitsprecher. He was baptized at Stavanger Lutheran Church, Ossian, IA and confirmed at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church. Don graduated from Canton High School in Canton, Minnesota in 1953. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. He married Sara J. Ness on November 29, 1958, they later divorced. Don farmed in the Burr Oak area for many years until he and his family moved to Cresco in the mid-1960s where he continued to farm and sold seed corn. In the 1980’s Don retired from farming. He worked as a mail hauler and at Bethany Housewares, but continued to be active in farming by helping his family and friends. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Don restored a 1953 and a 1967 John Deere tractor due to his love of John Deere. Don enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by four daughters: Cindy (Ken) Carruth of Rochester, MN, Janet (Rod Ollendieck) Smith of Ridgeway, IA, Susan Kratz of Waukon, IA and Vicki (Ehab) Michael of Sarasota, FL.; twelve grandchildren: Jerry Miller, Steven Miller, Tyler Carruth, Cole Carruth, Luke Carruth, Jessica Smith, Jason Smith, Christopher Smith, Angela Breitsprecher, Alex Kratz, Brett Kratz, Jonathan Michael; eight great-grandchildren; two siblings: DiAnn (Eugene) Burri of Rochester, MN and Alan (Rose) Breitsprecher of Decorah; a sister-in-law, Donna Breitsprecher of Rushford, MN. Don was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers: James Breitsprecher and Kenneth Breitsprecher.

Don’s Wit and humor was known and appreciated by all who knew him.
