Beulah C. Shindelar passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2017, at Barthell Eastern Star Home, Decorah, Iowa. Beulah had resided in the Spillville area for several years before moving to assisted living during December 2015, and to the nursing home in April 2016.

Beulah Columbine Peterson was born on May 7, 1930 to Oliver and Annie (Sollien) Peterson. She grew up on a farm known as the “Berg or Berge Homestead”, one of the first farms settled in the area. Beulah attended high school at Decorah and Waukon, following earlier grades at rural country schools. Beulah married Leonard Moudry, who passed away in 1961, although she continued to farm with her daughters Cozette and Grace helping with the chores.

Beulah married the light of her life, John A. Shindelar on November 18, 1967, and they are the parents of one son, John Oliver. They continued to farm southwest of Spillville before moving to senior housing in Spillville August 1998. John and Beulah were married 34 years before John passed away October 2001.

Beulah will be remembered by family, friends and many others as being a very giving person. She loved all of her family and looked forward to any family gatherings and the get-togethers with her siblings. Beulah also was close to her special “ENT” friends, whether creating Pysanki eggs or just having fun together. She enjoyed knitting, ceramics, gardening, canning, freezing, baking, taking pictures, making lefse, and traveling. Beulah also enjoyed entertaining with her husband John and they would often play music at various retirement homes in the area. Beulah worked at the Old World Inn and the Bily Clocks. She was active in the community and a member of St. Wenceslaus Church parish as God was important in her life. Beulah was happiest when she was helping someone.

Beulah is survived by her children Grace (James L.) Barloon, and John O. (Cristie) Shindelar. Her siblings Alton Peterson, Lorraine Ellickson, Carol (Spencer) Bolson, and Robert (Dianne) Peterson. Her grandchildren James R. Barloon, Bryan (Holly) Pearson, David Pearson, and great grandchildren Matthew and Autumn Barloon, and Dylan, Kaylee, Rylan, and Samantha Pearson. Other beloved surviving family include John Pearson, Myung Barloon, and Nicki Biery. Many nieces and nephews.
